Semester Four (current):

Reading List:

• Introduction to Physical Hydrology

• Begin protype surface hydrology simulation model.
• Form advisory committee.
• Begin formalizing project proposal.

Semester Three:

Transition to the supervision of Dr. Gunn and Dr. Newman. Primary discussions of project topic focus on hydrological model of the Junction Creek watershed. With change in topic new areas of background study required. Many opportunities for collabortion within the group including the members of the Cooperative Freshwater Ecology Unit.

Other Activities:

• Brief presentation on project goals and general simulation computing in ecology at the Cooperative Freshwater Ecology Unit's annual general meeting.
• Prototype of a disturbance model developed in collaboration with Dr. Jim Rusak.
• Participated in the installation of a "Hobo(TM)" water level monitor in Junction Creek (lead by Dr. Mike White).
• Contact with several local stakeholders to guage interest in and data availability for a simulation model of the Junction Creek watershed.

Semesters One and Two:

Focus: Build on ecological knowledge developed during MSc., in particular expand beyond dispersal and simple spatial mechanisms to a broader understanding of terrestrial ecosystem-level ecology. Improve skills found to be underdeveloped during MSc. particularly statistics and calculus.
